Boulder View Tavern

Nightlife in the Poconos means a good bar with a view, a fire and live music at the weekend, and that is what the Boulder View Tavern is. It sits on the shore of Lake Harmony, a few minutes from both our homes, and it has been the local evening spot for a long time.

The lake view is the main event. In summer, the deck and the lawn run right down to the water and there are boat slips, so people arrive by pontoon. Sunset from the deck with a drink is the best thing to do in Lake Harmony on a warm evening, full stop. In winter, the inside is warm and wood-panelled with a fireplace, and it fills up with people coming off Jack Frost and Big Boulder in ski jackets.

There is live music most Friday and Saturday nights, mostly local cover bands and acoustic acts, and it is loud and cheerful rather than sophisticated. The bar does a full menu, so it works as dinner as well as drinks. The wings and the fish are the safe orders.

Go early at weekends in ski season and in July and August, when the deck is full by 7pm. Midweek it is quieter and you can get a table by the window. It is a short, well-lit drive back to the townhome, and if you would rather walk in summer, the Arrowhead Lake home is not far.
