Our Lake Harmony townhome sits at the base of Jack Frost Mountain, which is the main reason people book it between December and March. Jack Frost and Big Boulder are sister resorts a few miles apart that share a lift ticket, and between them they cover most of what a family wants from a Pocono ski weekend without pretending to be Vermont.
Jack Frost is the better mountain for beginners and intermediates and for anyone with children in ski school. The runs are wider and the pace is calmer. Big Boulder is where the terrain park crowd goes, and it stays open into the evening for night skiing, which is a good way to get a second session out of a day. Both have rentals and lessons, so you do not need to own anything.
Snow tubing at Big Boulder is the honest recommendation for the members of the group who do not want to ski. It is a proper lift-served tubing hill and it is fun for adults too. Book tubing sessions online in advance; they sell out on holiday weekends.
Weekdays in January and February are the sweet spot for short lift lines and softer prices. Holiday weeks are busy. In summer, Jack Frost’s slopes open for hiking and the view from the top over the valley is worth the walk up.
